The Community Leadership Academy is an experience for individuals who want to enhance their leadership capabilities and connect with like-minded professionals in Eagle County. The program helps participants develop strong values-based leadership skills, create a broad network of confidants, as well as build trust and consistency between Eagle County businesses and agencies. This unique environment also presents the opportunity for participants to learn about the practical application of the skills and strategies through roundtable discussions, group collaboration, and case study analysis.

200: Purpose & Core Competencies – 2017
The Community Leadership Academy’s Purpose & Core Competencies Program will begin with a Personal Discovery Retreat. Located in the backcountry of Eagle County, the retreat is delivered in a small group setting. Participants will spend two days being guided through a series of individual and group exercises that will help them define the various aspects of a strong leader, including Values, Strengths, Passions, Legacy, and ultimately, their Life Purpose. The serene natural environment will also allow for participants to spend time alone for reflection.
The retreat will be followed up with 5 work sessions in which participants will develop their critical thinking skills in real world scenarios. Participants will have access to case studies developed by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and other learning partners of the Vail Centre. The work sessions will consist of pre-work reading, 25% of classroom delivery of research and case study information, 50% of small group breakout sessions to formulate an opinion and solution, and 25% of open discussion to support collective learning. Participants must complete the Personal Discovery Retreat and all 5 work sessions to receive a certificate.
Outcomes are derived from the strategies, techniques, and tools used throughout the process. Participants will gain the knowledge and experience by actively engaging in and leading various activities that can then be used in their day-to-day roles within their organization.
