On Tuesday, December 8th, the inaugural class of Vail Centre’s Community Leadership Academy completed it’s seventh and final course of their session. This program, under the Vail Centre for Leadership, started in October as a pilot for the upcoming sessions being offered in 2016. The Community Leadership Academy aims to deliver high quality, cost effective leadership programming to our local public sector employees. It also serves to build a pipeline of future leaders, facilitate successful transitions, and strengthen the brand of public service.
A STRONG FOUNDATION
Rooted in the Inside First philosophy, the Community Leadership Academy helps participants discover and define a strong foundation for leadership through a series of facilitated courses focused on values, trust, integrity, ethics, and communication. The RoundTable format provides a safe environment for our community leaders to collaborate, problem solve, and learn from each other. In addition to the leadership principles, participants also receive effective management skills and employee engagement techniques.
The Community Leadership Academy was amazing for me, both personally and professionally. An essential element is recognizing what it means for you to be in alignment in all aspects of your life. -Nina Timm
BENEFITING THE COMMUNITY
Historically, leadership programs have been difficult for individual governments to implement and sustain, mainly due to cost. The Community Leadership Academy addresses this issue by creating an economy of scale, pooling resources, and participating in the program together. This helps the participants build strong bridges between agencies. As a result of the positive relationships built between individuals, trust noticeably increases between agencies and along with it, speed and efficiency. In a work sector known for promoting from within, the program strongly supports succession planning, ensuring high-functioning communities for years to come.
